Training & Development

Invest in member skills with robust training programs and professional development opportunities.

Key Goals:

Utilize Local and International Training Trust Funds to meaningfully increase member certifications
Develop local trainers to minimize training costs
Build a comprehensive training program to meet the emerging needs of new work opportunities

Organizing

The current business rep has allowed non-union events to take hold all over our islands. Together, we will lock down our jurisdiction to increase the amount of available work for all members.

Key Goals:

Leverage Union training to achieve State and County Facility Agreements
place members on non-union gigs specifically to flip the show union
Negotiate term agreements with employers, focusing on member priorities

Fair & Equitable Job Placement

Job placement and referral procedures should be clear, realistic, and understandable. Together, we will build a system that works for every member so that information is shared equitably

Key Goals:

Job placement with as much advance notice as possible
Contract and hourly wage posted before you accept the gig
Post your resumes on your profile of the job referral system

Workplace Representation

The presence of the L665 Business Representative on work sites is necessary to hold employers accountable. As your Business Rep, I will consistently be there on the job site to fight for your rights

Key Goals:

Consistent support for and coordination with job stewards
Regular set/job site visits to ensure member rights are equitably applied
Uniformly enforce contract provisions to hold employers accountable

Political Action

Mobilize our collective voice to influence legislation that benefits working families in our industry and our community

Key Goals:

Legislative advocacy for pro worker legislation in our industry and in the broader labor community
Conscientious political endorsements to support candidates that support us
Leverage our training, our standing in the community, and our political presence to secure lasting facility agreements

Worker Representation

Advocating for the rights of working families extends beyond just our industry - it is the belief that every worker's value is more than just the price tag of their hourly wages & benefits

Key Goals:

Fight for member concerns over employer concerns in contract negotiation and in the public sphere
Strong advocacy for Labor in the public sphere - HI Workforce Development Council, Democratic Party of Hawaii Labor Caucus, HI AFL-CIO Exec Board, and more
Advocate for our diverse IA community as the first International Trustee from Hawai'i in 20 years and an Executive Committee member of the IA DEI Committee
